“…At that time the ship was called the Givot, which is the Russian word for stomach. When it came to naming hospital ships the navy of the USSR borrowed a U.S. navy custom of naming ships of the same class from a specific subject list, U.S. battleships were named after states, cruisers after cities, and Soviet hospital ships were named after body parts. The Armpit was known to be the least desirable ship in the fleet.
The Givot (stomach) had a reputation of being a fast and able ship. Once, while involved in the same maneuvers the Givot raced two other hospital ships, the Noga (foot) and the Skelet (skeleton) and beat them both by a nose…” 


About the Author

Milt Abel has performed extensively as a stand-up comic on cruise ships throughout the Caribbean, Alaska, and Mexico. With years of experience as a comedian and a cruise passenger Milt has created this collection of humorous short stories set on a mythical cruise ship, The Delux. Between cruises, and sometimes in spite of them, Milt continues to perform as a stand-up comedian throughout North America in comedy clubs and at private and corporate functions.
