About the Author

Robert “Bob” Marston, our dad, was a storyteller. He loved talking for hours about his war memories to anyone who would listen.  His sense of humor and sarcasm keep you enthralled throughout his tragic yet heartwarming stories of his time spent in the U.S. Army.

Bob and his daughter Kathy spent many mornings at Denny's restaurant reviewing Bob’s spoken words from his tapes over breakfast. His words were later transcribed by Kathy for a Father’s Day gift so his stories could be put into print.

Sadly, on February 20, 2002, Dad lost his life to chronic multiple aneurysms.

When we think back on these times, and the dreams we left behind, We’ll be glad ‘cause we were blessed to get to have you in our lives. Daddy, you will always be in our hearts and we will always remember you for your infectious laugh and mischievous grin…for your sense of humor that managed to put things into perspective…. for your quick wit that concealed pain, and for your compassion for life.  We will always keep a part of you with us.
